The person answerable for the homicide of sixteen-yr-previous Ka’Shawn Phillips in Yonkers greater than 12 years in the past was sentenced to 30 years in federal jail. 

Juan Martinez, aka “KJ,” a member of the Yonkers faction of the violent Trinitarios Gang, was concerned with a fistfight with Phillips at a pickup basketball recreation on Sept. 5, 2005, federal prosecutors stated. 

Martinez, who was 30 on the time, first attacked Phillips with a machete after which enlisted members of the Bronx faction of the Trinitarios Gang to assault Phillips, in response to prosecutors. 

Armed with weapons, knives and swords, a mob of gang members shot, beat and stabbed Phillips to demise. 

Joon Kim, appearing U.S. Lawyer for the Southern District of New York, stated his workplace, going again to his predecessor Preet Bharara, have charged at the very least 149 members and associates of the Trinitarios Gang. 

“On a Labor Day weekend 12 years in the past, Juan Martinez recruited successful squad of his fellow Trinitarios Gang members to homicide sixteen-yr-previous Ka’Shawn Phillips, who had earlier been concerned in a fistfight with Martinez,” Kim stated in a press release. “The Trinitarios Gang members recruited by Martinez brutally shot, beat and stabbed Phillips to demise in the midst of the road. Whereas nothing can deliver Phillips again, we hope his household finds a measure of solace within the justice achieved by at the moment’s sentence.”
