Was Newhall brush blaze set by arsonist with cigarette lighter?

A person was arrested Sunday after witnesses advised deputies he used a cigarette lighter to set brush on hearth within the Newhall space of Santa Clarita, authorities stated.

It occurred about 5 p.m. at Fourth and Race streets, Los Angeles County Division Sgt. Brian Shreves stated.

The suspect — fifty one-yr-previous Hector Gayton — was first detained then arrested after deputies investigated additional, Shreves stated.

Los Angeles County firefighters put out the blaze … which had grown to about 2,500 sq. ft, he stated.

Gayton was being held on $seventy five,000 bail, in response to sheriff’s inmate data. An preliminary courtroom look was set for Tuesday.
