Tucson man sentenced to more than 7 years for ammunition smuggling

TUCSON, Ariz. — A person convicted of making an attempt to smuggle 5,000 rounds of ammunition from Nogales, Arizona, into Mexico was sentenced to greater than seven years in jail.

Authorities say forty one-yr-previous Gabriel Rivero tried to convey the ammunition into Mexico in February 2016, however a spare tire on his truck the place the bullets have been hidden fell to the bottom whereas at a port of entry in Nogales.

Officers say Rivero obtained out of the truck and tried to retrieve the tire, however deserted it after he was unable to select it up.

After he drove into Mexico, a border officer found the ammunition hidden within the tire.

Rivero, who lives in Nogales, was detained by authorities when he returned to the USA a month later.

He was sentenced on Monday.
