NEW ROCHELLE – Five law enforcement agencies arrested 36 suspected drug dealers and were seeking 14 more in two major drug sweeps today in New Rochelle.

Operations “Birdcage” and “Fresh Start,” which are two separate, months-long investigations that targeted heroin, crack cocaine and cocaine dealers in the city, were executed throughout the day on Thursday, New Rochelle police said.

Those arrested as part of “Operation Birdcage” have been charged as a result of New York state grand jury indictments, while “Operation Fresh Start” suspects will face federal charges.

Both operations are still ongoing. The U.S. Attorney’s Office was expected to provide more details.

The operations include the New Rochelle Police Department, Westchester County Department of Public Safety, Westchester County District Attorney’s Investigators and special agents from the FBI and the Drug Enforcement Agency.
