Donte Tempo, 22, was sentenced to 14 years in jail.

Donte Tempo of Mount Vernon has been sentenced to 14 years in jail for stabbing a Yonkers man to dying in 2016.

Westchester County Courtroom Decide Barry Warhit sentenced Tempo at present for killing James Puryear, the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office said in a press release.

Pace, 22, pleaded guilty on June 30 to first-degree manslaughter, a felony. He had faced up to 25 years in prison.

ARREST: Donte Pace accused of stabbing Yonkers man

KILLED: Yonkers man stabbed to death

Puryear, 24, was killed on Oct. 18, 2016. Officials have not said why Pace attacked him, but prosecutors said in court documents that Pace told police that he did not mean to kill Puryear and that it happened very fast.

Prosecutors said that Pace and a group of friends were standing on the corner of Elm Street and Oak Street in Yonkers around 4:30 p.m. that day when Puryear walked by on the other side of Elm Street.

Pace and his friends saw Puryear and followed him, prosecutors said, and Pace stabbed him once in the chest outside 179 Elm St., prosecutors said.

Puryear, who was not armed, ran across the road from 179 Elm St. and collapsed, officials said. A good Samaritan then called 911.

Puryear was taken to St. Joseph’s Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Prosecutors said the stabbing was captured on surveillance video. Pace was arrested on Oct. 28, 2016, and he has been in custody since then.

After he was arrested, prosecutors said, Pace told police that he stabbed Puryear but that he did not intend to kill him.

Pace was indicted on a charge of first-degree manslaughter and a misdemeanor charge of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and was arraigned in Westchester County Court on Feb. 22, 2017.

Nicholas DiCostanzo prosecuted the case.
