A person threatened to leap from a downtown overpass onto the Harbor (one hundred ten) Freeway Friday, prompting closure of a stretch of the freeway that backed up visitors for miles.
The person threatened to leap about 5:20 p.m. close to the Wilshire Boulevard exit, stated Los Angeles Police Division Officer Sal Ramirez.
The threatened suicide pressured the California Freeway Patrol to cease northbound and southbound visitors on the Harbor Freeway at Wilshire Boulevard and problem a SigAlert, in accordance with CHP Officer Michele Bond.
Models from the Los Angeles Hearth Division and LAPD responded to the scene. Firefighters deployed air cushions on the freeway. Negotiators from the LAPD started speaking to the person, making an attempt to influence him to return down.
The person surrendered to police about 6:25 p.m., was taken into custody, evaluated by paramedics and delivered to a hospital for an analysis, police stated.
The incident backed up visitors on the Santa Monica (10) Freeway for miles, in line with authorities.
