Around 12:45 a.m. on July 22, the man allegedly ripped down and stole the 15-by-10 foot flag from the front of the business located on East Central Avenue, police said.
It was all caught on surveillance camera.
The video showed a single man slowly walking up to the flag and begin yanking it down from the front of the bar. After removing the flag, the man unceremoniously wraps up the flag and walks away.
“Through the help of the public a suspect was developed,” Orangetown police said in a press release.
The New Jersey man was charged and released, police said. He is scheduled to appear in Orangetown Justice Court on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m.
The oversized flag was placed in front of the business shortly before Memorial Day. It replaced a smaller, 3-by-5 flag that had been stolen a couple of weeks earlier.
