A pedestrian was struck and killed by a car Tuesday in Pomona, and a motorbike officer responding to the hit-and-run collision was critically injured in a separate crash, police stated.
The pedestrian, who was in his 40s or 50s, died about 6:35 a.m. within the 2200 block of North Garey Avenue, Pomona police stated. His identify was withheld pending notification of his family members.
Afterward, the alleged hit-and-run motorist returned to the crash website, California Freeway Patrol Officer Rodrigo Jimenez stated. The unidentified Pomona man, who’s 21, was questioned, and the investigation was persevering with, Jimenez stated.
Jimenez stated the Pomona officer was responding to the scene of the fatality when his motorbike collided with a Ford Explorer making a flip within the 1400 block of North Garey Avenue.
The 32-yr-previous officer, a 9-yr veteran of the drive, was taken to a hospital in essential situation with a head damage. His identify was not launched.
Officers interviewed the driving force of the Explorer, who was not injured. The CHP was investigating each the pedestrian fatality and the officer’s crash, Jimenez stated.
Garey Avenue was closed within the space whereas an investigation was carried out.
