The girlfriend of former USC kicker Matt Boermeester says that the Title IX investigation that led to his removing from the varsity’s soccer staff was “horrible and unjust” and that he didn’t assault her as is being claimed.

Zoe Katz, 22, a senior, stated in a two-web page assertion her lawyer emailed to The Occasions that Boermeester “has been falsely accused of conduct involving me.” Her lawyer, Kerry L. Steigerwalt, stated that USC alleged that Boermeester shoved Katz outdoors her house.

USC suspended Boermeester in February whereas the varsity investigated what it referred to as a “scholar-conduct problem.”

Mark Schamel, an lawyer representing Boermeester, stated Boermeester was not permitted to return to USC following the varsity’s investigation, through which USC alleged that Boermeester assaulted Katz, which each Katz and Boermeester deny.

Within the assertion, Katz stated she and Boermeester have dated for greater than a yr. The Title IX investigation started, Steigerwalt stated, after a neighbor witnessed Boermeester and Katz roughhousing, The Occasions reported.

The neighbor advised his roommate, who advised a coach in USC’s athletic division that Boermeester was abusing Katz. The coach then reported the incident to the Title IX workplace, in response to The Occasions.

Katz stated she was summoned to a compulsory assembly with Title IX officers, the place she advised investigators the 2 have been enjoying round. Katz was subsequently advised that she “have to be afraid of Matt,” which she denied.

“Once I informed the reality about Matt, in repeated interrogations, I used to be stereotyped and was advised I have to be a `battered’ lady, and that made me really feel demeaned and absurdly profiled,” Katz stated. “I perceive that home violence is a horrible drawback, however on no account does that apply to Matt and me.”

A spokesman for USC, in an emailed assertion to The Occasions, stated that “the college has concluded its investigation. Scholar disciplinary data and proceedings relating to any matter of scholar conduct are confidential and guarded by regulation. Per the registrar, he’s not enrolled on the college.”
