Federal authorities Thursday acknowledged that safety procedures at Los Angeles Worldwide Airport weren’t adopted when an off- obligation Santa Monica police officer boarded a flight to Taiwan with a private handgun in her carry-on bag.

Officer Noell Grant entered Taiwan on April thirteen and was barred from leaving the nation after the handgun was found in her possession, Nico Melendez of the Transportation Safety Administration stated.

The TSA “has decided normal procedures weren’t adopted and a police officer did in truth move by way of the (LAX) checkpoint with a firearm,” Melendez stated.

Grant had gone to Taiwan for a trip, and was carrying a private, not a division, weapon, the Day by day Information reported.

“My understanding is she’s capable of transfer about, (however) she can’t depart the nation till the matter is resolved,” Santa Monica police Lt. Saul Rodriguez advised the newspaper on Wednesday.

Rodriguez couldn’t say if she had been arrested or charged with a criminal offense in that nation. He was not obtainable for remark Thursday.

Requested by the newspaper whether or not the incident might have an effect on Grant’s standing as a police officer, Rodriguez stated it was not but clear.
