Covina cat shot in neck with pellet rifle: 44-year-old suspect arrested

A forty four-yr-previous man has been arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty for allegedly capturing his neighbor’s cat with a pellet rifle.

Matthew Beistel was arrested Wednesday within the 1200 block of West Badillo Road, in accordance with the Covina Police Division.

In late February, a resident on that block observed his household pet, a cat named Layla, was appearing unusually and when he took the feline to a vet, an X- ray confirmed she had a pellet lodged in her neck, police stated.

“Layla’s proprietor reported ongoing points together with his neighbor (Beistel) through the years, one in every of which resulted within the courtroom issuing an order defending him from Beistel,” based on a police assertion. “On a number of events previous to Layla’s reported damage, it had been reported to the Covina Police Division that Beistel was seen on his rooftop firing a pellet rifle, in violation of (municipal code), which finally led to the confiscation of the pellet rifle.”

Detectives matched the pellets from the pellet rifle to Layla’s X-rays and consider Beistel is answerable for inflicting the cat’s damage, police stated.

Beistel was being held on the Covina police jail with bail set at $20,000 and a Friday courtroom look scheduled, police stated.
